Brisbane food outlets are embracing Aussie culture for Australia Day, with Burger Urge putting Clive Palmer on the menu.
Everything at the moment is about Australia Day. Temporary tattoos, cheap Aussie flags made in China, and Aussie beer are flying off the shelves.
When it comes to food, outlets around Brisbane are embracing Aussie culture revealing the good, the bad and the iconic when it comes to Australia Day themed food.
For the second year running, Burger Urge is offering ‘The Clive Palmer’. I don’t know about you but when I first heard of a burger named after Clive Palmer it didn’t sound very appetizing. However after reading the description of the burger, I may drop into Burger Urge to give the burger a try and then immediately slip into a food coma.
The burger is a towering combination of four x 130g beef patties, four rashers of bacon, three slices of cheese, BBQ sauce and garlic mayonnaise.
Burger Urge Managing Director, Sean Carthew said The Clive Palmer was as unforgettable as the man himself.
“The Clive Palmer is big, it’s bold, it can’t hide and it’s memorable – much like the man, one of this country’s great characters,” he said.
I think the burger would definitely be unforgettable, because the consequences from eating it will immediately appear on your thighs.
Mr Palmer will be spend Australia Day at a Citizenship Ceremony in his electorate of Fairfax on the Sunshine Coast and was not available to comment on the burger. I wonder if he would approve of the flavor combination?
In similar spirit, new South Bank venue South Side Diner is offering the ‘Aussie Day Burger’ consisting of Darling Downs beef patty, beetroot, caramelized onion, and pineapple.
Slightly more bizarre is the food Regatta Hotel is offering at their Backyard Barbecue event.
Lamb and Vegemite sausages are on the menu as well as an array of Aussie flavours at the gelato stand – Lamington, Berry Pavlova, and my personal favourite, Dirty Granny.
