Mirusia, the ‘Angel of Australia’ is home to perform at the Lord Mayor’s Carols this Saturday 14 December.
The Brisbane born soprano launched her career in 2005 by winning the Young Talent award at the Lord Mayor’s Carols and within two years the famous composer Andre Rieu requested she tour with him.
Mirusia says when Rieu called her home directly she thought someone was playing a practical joke on her.
“I feel that the carols really put me on the map in Brisbane as a classical singer,” she says.
“It wasn’t long before my career path was laid out before me – singing classical cross over and operetta and operatic arias with Andre Rieu.”
With a career that boasts performing for the Dutch King and Queen’s coronation in front of 60,000 people in Amsterdam, Mirusia’s star is shining bright.
And she has a surprise for Brisbane fans attending or watching this year’s Carols – a new Christmas song will be unveiled.
“I will be performing a stunning Christmas song written for me by the well-known composer and conductor Graeme Press; it is called Gentle Mary.”
Mirusia is also releasing an album and live DVD in time for Christmas titled Beautiful That Way, which was filmed and recorded in the Netherlands during a tour in September.
The Lord Mayor’s Carols is on Saturday 14 December at the River Stage in Brisbane City Botanic Gardens from 7.15pm.
