Captivating audiences at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, The Student is the latest offering from award-winning Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov.

Russian Resurrection is the largest festival of Russian cinema outside of Russia today. Highlights include Cannes Film Festival hit The Student from director Kirill Serebrennikov, historical thriller The Duelist from Alexei Mizrievs and the winner of this year’s audience award at Kinotavr, The Good Boy.

The program will screen from Wednesday 2 November to Wednesday 9 November at Event Cinemas Myer Centre and showcase the very best cinema Eastern Europe has to offer.

Thanks to the Russian Resurrection Film Festival 2016, we’ve got 25 double passes to give away to an advance screening of The Student on Thursday October 20 at 6:30pm at Event Cinemas Myer Centre!

Veniamin, a teenager in the midst of a mystical crisis, has his mother, schoolmates and entire high school turned upside down by his own interpretation of the Bible and questions such as whether girls can go to swimming classes in bikinis, whether sex education has a place in school, and whether or not the theory of evolution should be taught as part of the Natural Sciences.

Soon, all the adults are overwhelmed by the certitudes of this youngster who swears only by Scripture. No one but Elena, his biology teacher, will challenge him on his own ground.
