We asked our readers to make us a TV commercial for our Australia Day issue. Now it’s time to throw a snag on the barbie and announce our winner.
A hearty congratulations to Justin Hartwell, from Townsville’s North Ward, for his winning entry! The patriotism just oozes off the screen, doesn’t it?
“I came across the competition online, and at the time, I figured the challenge for me was to create something left-of-the middle and fun,” Justin says. “It took days to find the right stuffed animal to use. You can find Easter eggs for Australia Day, but who thought a stuffed Australian animal would be so difficult?”
Justin filmed the ad in his house on a DSLR camera. He’s been producing short films since 2003, and says his favourite director is Peter Jackson. “Not just because of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies,” he adds. “He was awesome long before then!”
Justin will spend his Australia Day having a good BBQ with friends and family, and a relaxing coffee on the beach. (Sounds good to us, Justin.)
His ad will be aired on two commercial networks this month, and he’s won 100,000 Frequent Flyer points for his efforts, which should go a long way towards his dream trips to Canada and New Zealand.
bmag‘s Australia Day issue will be released on January 20.
