R&B superstar The Weeknd has just announced his first ever Australian tour dates.

The singer, also known as Abel Tesfaye, is coming to Oz for ‘Phase Two’ of his Starboy world tour.

Long regarded as one of the genre’s most promising talents on the back of his House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence mixtapes, he crossed over to the mainstream with his debut studio album, Kissland, in 2013.

It was his follow-up LP, 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness, that made him a phenomenon. The album topped the Billboard chart, and he also became the first artist ever to hold the top three spots on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart with ‘Earned It’, ‘The Hills’ and ‘Can’t Feel My Face’.

His third album, 2016’s Starboy, also topped the charts, and featured guest appearances from Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey, Future and Kendrick Lamar.

Details of his Australian tour are extremely thin on the ground so far, with support acts and even venues yet to be announced, but you can expect an announcement about those shortly.

The Weeknd will play Brisbane on Wednesday 6 December. Venue TBC.
