The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee formerly known as Cat Stevens will tour Australia in November and December.
Yusuf’s Peace Train tour will commemorate the 50th anniversary of his first major hit single and debut album, Matthew & Son, released way back in 1967.
One of the most influential singer-songwriters of all time, Cat Stevens first attracted attention with singles like Matthew & Son, Here Comes My Baby and The First Cut Is The Deepest in the late ’60s, before a heavy workload of non-stop touring led him to be hospitalised for several months with TB.
That’s when he began to question his life and spirituality, and underwent a personal transformation that can be heard in the tracks that made him a household name in the ’70s, like Wild World, Father & Son, Morning Has Broken, Peace Train and Moonshadow.
In 1975, Cat experienced another brush with death when he nearly drowned in the Pacific Ocean, after which he dedicated himself fully to the ‘Divine path’, leaving music behind to concentrate on education and humanitarian relief, and eventually fading from public view altogether.
It wasn’t until 9/11 that Yusuf, as he now prefers to be known, felt motivated to make his presence felt again, speaking out in the media against fanaticism and war and calling for peace and unity.
That obviously stirred something, because in 2006, he returned to mainstream music with the album An Other Cup, followed by Roadsinger in 2009 and Tell ‘Em I’m Gone in 2014, the same year he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Yusuf hasn’t toured Australia since 2010, when he sold out arenas around the country, so it’s fair to say this concert has been heavily anticipated.
Yusuf / Cat Stevens will play the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday 9 December; tickets will go on sale at 10am on Wednesday 5 April at Ticketek.
If you’re a member of Yusuf’s Redroom fan club, you can snag pre-sale tickets from midday on Wednesday 29 March, while Telstra pre-sale tickets will be available from 10am on Thursday 30 March.
I thought the tickets would be more moderately priced and he would be donating it all to some charity. The Cat may be still doing that, lucky charity and more power to them and food, essentials and chocolate, I hope he is giving them chocolate. Now I will have to try in win the tickets in some comp, may God be with me. That’s if I don’t win Cash Cow first, then we will be having a slap up dinner then the show, followed by a five star hotel.
Just a couple of hours in ethereal peacefulness, I have some stuff I could sell if I need to.
I can’t wait to see Yusif!
Just wondering though, If I show my face around him, will I get an apology for his support of me getting death threats, or will he continue to advocate for me to be killed by a mob?
Well Salman Rusdie, if you pay the ticket price and actually show your face around him (?), I am shore he will have the wisdom to talk to you. That’s only if you spring for a ticket for me, otherwise he cut your head off. So spring for a ticket for me, if you know what’s good for you.
I think there is a niche for a guirtar star, I have been watching them on YouTube over the last couple of days, damn! they were talented.
Lookout Cat, I have drawn on my Super (non related) so I am flush and I have found out your bloody expensive. What do you do for five hundred bucks? I would expect there is decent wine involved and a little bit of bread.
Back to YouTube, O’ the Humanity!
