Junky Comics will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in style.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer first aired on television on 10 March 1997, and to celebrate 20 years since the opening of the Hellmouth, Junky Comics are putting on a tribute show.

(Yes, they know Buffy technically first appeared in 1992’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer film, but much like creator Joss Whedon, they’ve decided the movie doesn’t count.)

The show smashed the Bechdel test and broke the mold for what could be accomplished by a teen drama, subverting gender roles and giving the world a pop cultural icon who truly slayed.

The following artists will celebrate the Buffyverse:

Chris Yee (SYD)
Sophie Beer
Lemon Chicken Por Favor (MEL)
Stellar Leuna
Jess Cruickshank (SYD)
Phoebe Paradise
Cass Urquhart
Niqui Toldi
Mel Tickle
Mitch Fresta
Dave Byrne
Mia Patternson
Steph Stainlay
Ben Mitchell (NSW)
Jennifer Embleton
Talia Enright
Kathy Pollock
Jaimee Fryer
Aeron Parker

The Welcome to Sunnydale art show will open this Friday 10 March (6pm-9pm), with beer and wine available upon donation.

The exhibition will be in store at Junky Comics (93 Vulture Street, West End) until Friday 31 March.
