Alt-country troubadour Ryan Adams has announced Australian tour dates in support of his new album, Prisoner.

The tour will bring Adams to town for his first Brisbane show since 2012.

The singer-songwriter was last in the country for an exclusive Sydney show late last year. He toured Australia in 2015, but because he played Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay, the tour didn’t include a Brisbane date.

Prisoner, Adams’ 16th studio album and his first album of original material since 2014’s self-titled LP, will be released on 17 February.

Adams announced the album on an episode of celebrity cat Lil Bub’s YouTube show, Lil Bub’s Big Show, which is a very Ryan Adams thing to do.

It’s been a significant time between releases for an artist as prolific as Adams, although he did fill the gap with 1989, his full-length cover album of Taylor Swift’s 1989, in 2015.

Adams will play The Tivoli (52 Costin Street, Fortitude Valley) on Tuesday 23 May with support from The Middle Kids. The Frontier Members pre-sale begins at 1pm Tuesday 14 February; tickets go on sale to the general public from 10am Thursday 16 February at Ticketmaster.
