Christine Anu and Thirsty Merc will headline the free Christmas by Starlight concert at Sirromet Wines.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams says the star-studded lineup will make this a Christmas to remember.

“The calibre of talent we have for this year’s locally-produced free concert will make it one of our best yet, from Twenty Good Reasons and Summertime hit-makers Thirsty Merc, to multi-ARIA award-winning urban pop artist and national favourite Christina Anu,” Cr Williams says.

“They are joined by some of Australia’s other finest voices including top musical theatre star Amanda Harrison of Les Miserables and Wicked fame, jazz vocalist Emma Pask, The Voice Australia finalist Ellen Reed, opera singer Billy Bourchier, orchestrator and singer Craig Allister Young, souls and blues singer Angela Fabian, Redlands’ own The Voice Kids 2014 winner Alexa Curtis and young Redlands soprano Leah Lever.

“Latin American band Chukale will get everyone on their feet, and bringing it all together is internationally-renowned musical director, pianist and composer John Foreman, known for his work on the Sydney 2000 opening ceremony, Australian Idol and many other major events.”

Cr Williams says the concert — which attracted 10,000 people last year — will feature a number of emerging local artists.

“Local stars Alexa and Leah will be joined by other Redlands performers including Quandamooka dancers, Jeremy Saywell, The Queensland Festival Chorus, Vocal Manoeuvres Children’s Chorus and vocalists, Redland City Choir, Redland Dance and Strictly Dance, with more still to be confirmed.

“So mark Christmas by Starlight down as a family must-do — come along, spread out a picnic blanket, enjoy the great food and drink stalls and kid’s activities and listen to all of your Christmas favourites.”

Christmas by Starlight gates will open from 3pm on Sunday 18 December at Sirromet Wines (850-938 Mount Cotton Road, Mount Cotton). The concert will commence at 6pm and end with a fireworks spectacular at about 8:15pm.
