Internationally renowned classical, jazz and rock violinist Nigel Kennedy will perform Vivaldi: The New Four Seasons + Dedications in Brisbane for one night only.
26 years after releasing his breakthrough recording of Vivaldi’s The New Four Seasons, which sold over three million copies (making it the best-selling classical record ever), punk violinist Nigel Kennedy has the Italian composer in his sights again.
For the last 25 years, Kennedy has been hailed as one of the world’s leading violin virtuosos, and one of the most important violinists Britain has ever produced. His unique talent, combined with his mass appeal, have brought fresh perspectives and new audiences to both the classical and contemporary repertoire.
This time, he’ll be presenting an acoustic version of his ground-breaking Four Seasons record, taking audiences on a journey through the seasons with extraordinary flair and delivering new interpretations of the music whilst staying true to the essence of Vivaldi’s work.
In Dedications, the half of the concert that will be made up of his own compositions, Kennedy will pay tribute to four of his musical heroes — Polish jazz guitarist, composer and band leader Jaroslaw Smietana, French jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli, American conductor and violinist Isaac Stern, and American bluegrass, jazz and country violinist, fiddler and composter Mark O’Connor.
Kennedy will be joined on stage by his 14-piece ensemble, Orchestra of Life.
“I love Australia, the weather, the people, the media and most importantly the audiences,” Kennedy says. “The Australian audiences are most generous. Having over 30 relatives living in different parts of ‘down under’ works so wonderfully when I come back and I get to catch up with many friends. I am looking forward to this visit with great excitement.”
Kennedy’s Australian tour coincides with the launch of his latest album, My World, which follows The New Four Seasons. Kennedy will be playing music from both albums on this tour.
The tour follows three sold out and acclaimed national concert tours over the last decade. His most recent visit was in 2010.
Nigel Kennedy will play QPAC’s Concert Hall on Thursday 2 February. Tickets will go on sale from 9am this Friday 11 November at qpac.com.au.
