Classic Brisbane club night Common People will return for one night only on New Year’s Eve.

Born from the ashes of ’00s indie rock club The Depot, Common People lived at Rosie’s Upstairs from 2007 to 2009 (or, as the promoters call it, “that weird period when people thought the Valley had lost its edge and the City was going to ‘happen’ again”).

Right now I’m just imagining a lot of blank stares from anyone who wasn’t in their late teens or early 20s in Brisbane in the late ’00s, but trust us, Common People was a good thing.

The cult club night traded in quality indie, pop, trash and hip hop tunes, and introduced a new generation of club kids to the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Dizzee Rascal, Blondie, Missy Elliott, Le Tigre and more.

Whether or not you were there the first time around, everyone (well, everyone over the age of 18) is invited to celebrate the return of Common People at this free New Year’s Eve show at The Foundry (228 Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley) from 9pm with DJs D. Black, Elka Von Schmoot, Lil Mikki and Sullivan.
