Cult favourite actor Nathan Fillion — of Firefly and Castle fame — headlines the first announcement of guests for this year’s Supanova pop culture convention in Brisbane.
Fillion, who recently wrapped up the long-running Castle, gained a loyal fanbase playing Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the Joss Whedon sci-fi series, Firefly, which later spun off into the film Serenity.
He first gained notice with a supporting role in Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place (the show that first propelled Ryan Reynolds to fame), and has also appeared in films like Saving Private Ryan, Slither, Super and Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing.
He has supplied the voice of Green Lantern in a number of DC animated films, and will appear in a small role as Simon Williams (aka Wonder Man) in the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The line-up also includes actors Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars), Jason Mewes (Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma), and Claudia Wells (who played Marty McFly’s girlfriend in the original Back to the Future).
Voice actors Steve Blum (Transformers, The Regular Show), Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Ghost in the Shell, Naruto) and Veronica Taylor (Pokemon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will also appear, along with authors Peter V Brett (the Demon Cycle series) and Alan Baxter (the Alex Caine series).
This is the first of multiple announcements that will be made in the lead-up to the festival, which will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 11-13 November. For more info and tickets, visit supanova.com.au.
