Visual and sonic worlds will collide next month, in a luminous collaboration between dance, animation, sound and outdoor installation.

Held every second Friday in July at some of Brisbane’s most exciting outdoor spaces, Friday Night Laneways: Lumen Body explores a groundbreaking collaboration between three exquisite artists with the support of Queensland’s premier contemporary dance company.

In each performance, four contemporary dancers from Expressions Dance Company (EDC) will create a striking interaction with animated visual forms, electronic sound and live vocal performance – creating a magical display for everyone to enjoy.

Musician and visual artist Michelle Xen’s physical sonic performance will combine with Paul Van Opdenbosch’s experimental animations, generated from the choreographed movements of EDC’s Elise May.

Simple geometric sculptures are illuminated by projected imagery that responds to the movement of the dancers’ bodies. Physical and digital objects, bodies and sounds talk to one another and tell visual stories in the illuminated space where three art forms merge and collaborate.

Lumen Body will premiere in July in three different locations including; Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm on Friday 1 July, Gasometer at Gasworks Plaza in Newstead on Friday 15 July and River Quay Green in South Bank on Friday 29 July.

Wander through nearby restaurants or bars for a bite to eat and a tipple before dropping by anytime between 5:30pm and 7pm to watch these spaces really come alive!
