The Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) has unveiled The Student Movement, an initiative aimed at ensuring students from across Australia have access to Ballet Preljocaj’s performance of Snow White.
QPAC will open an entire performance — over 1700 seats in the Lyric Theatre — to students from anywhere in Australia to see Ballet Preljocaj’s Snow White on Wednesday 7 September for just $18 a ticket.
Tertiary and secondary students of dance, theatre, music, design, fashion and the arts, in particular, are being urged to take up the opportunity.
“By dedicating one whole performance exclusively to students and offering a lower price, QPAC is helping to inspire a new generation of arts lovers,” says Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism and Events Kate Jones.
“Welcoming the world-renowned Ballet Preljocaj will further Queensland’s reputation as a premier destination for arts and cultural events.
“The Student Movement initiative means students will have an incredible opportunity to experience a truly world-class ballet performance right here in Brisbane.
“I thank QPAC for making this wonderful production accessible for students from around Queensland and hope everyone enjoys the show.”
France’s Ballet Preljocaj, one of the leading ballet companies in the world, are bringing their evocative production of Snow White to QPAC for an exclusive Australian season from 2-11 September as part of the 2016 QPAC International Series.
Artistic director Angelin Preljocaj’s interpretation of the classic Grimm Brothers tale will feature costumes by designer Jean Paul Gaultier, music by Gustav Mahler and sets by theatre and film set designer Thierry Leproust.
QPAC chief executive John Kotzas says The Student Movement will offer students a chance to see this world class company in action.
“We are passionate about providing students, many of whom will become our performing arts stars and industry leaders, an opportunity to experience some of the most amazing artists working in the world today, and the International Series is a chance for us to do this,” he says.
“Price is often a distinct barrier for students in attending performance, particularly major seasons like this one. With The Student Movement we’re removing that barrier and hoping students who are passionate about the performing arts will travel to Brisbane and enjoy and engage in this spectacular work up close.”
The Student Movement tickets will go on sale to Australian students on Tuesday 31 May. For full terms and conditions, go to qpac.com.au, where general tickets to Ballet Preljocaj’s Snow White are on sale now.
