The folks at Morningside’s favourite drinking den, Death Valley, have just announced a festival with a difference.
Death Valley Fun Camp (DVFC) is a 24-hour escape from the city, and the closest you’ll ever come to living out your Wet Hot American Summer fantasies.
Located an hour and a half from Brisbane on picturesque Lake Moogerah, DVFC is a school camp for grown-ups, with craft beer poured into your reusable tumbler from actual beer taps, by an actual bartender. Better yet, your camp chow will be dished up by celebrated chefs, not teachers.
You’ll take part in workshops and classic camp activities, from flag making with Frankie Magazine stylist Rachel Burke and The Grates’ Patience Hodgson, to kayaking and a mud course for the adventurous.
You’ll pitch in and help cook dinner with Southside Tea Room and Lucky Egg; sing your heart out with live karaoke; and dance the night away to a covers set from Brisbane garage rockers Top Shelf Wedding Band.
Unlike a regular camping trip, you won’t need to frantically pack the car in the morning, because you’ll be covered for meals, drinks, and shelter, and you’ll also get a welcome pack that includes a one-off Fun Camp t-shirt.
For $79, you can buy a reusable beer mug that’ll be good for use during the whole camp. Fresh kegs of Young Henrys Brewery’s specialty brews will be tapped throughout the camp, ensuring you’ll never go thirsty, and you might even learn a thing or two from the Young Henrys brewers in the process.
All profits from food and beverage at the camp will go to Kids Helpline.
Death Valley Fun Camp will be held at Lake Moogerah (170 Ski Zone Road, QLD) from Saturday 21 May to Sunday 21 May; tickets go on sale at 9am this Thursday 31 March via deathvalleyfuncamp.com.
