Comedy mastermind Harry Shearer and ’80s teen movie icon Molly Ringwald have just been announced as the headline acts for this year’s Queensland Cabaret Festival.
Shearer is the voice of Mr Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Kent Brockman and more on The Simpsons, as well as a member of legendary comedy rock group Spinal Tap.
In This Infernal Racket, Shearer and his real-life wife, acclaimed singer-songwriter Judith Owen, will tackle life and all its distractions head-on in a special cabaret performance.
Featuring influences from Nixon to Mr Burns and with a lot of music in between, the pair will tackle fame, celebrity, politics, religion and relationships. They promise to deliver laughter, music, compassion and cruelty, as they attempt to make perfect sense of the confusing world around us.
Meanwhile, Molly Ringwald — best known for cult classic films like The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink — will perform a sassy cabaret show with her jazz trio, featuring her interpretations of nostalgic songs like I’ll Take Romance and The Very Thought of You, as well as a throwback to her ’80s heyday with her take on Don’t You Forget About Me.
Harry Shearer and Judith Owen will perform This Infernal Racket at the Queensland Cabaret Festival on Sunday 12 June. An Evening With Molly Ringwald will take place at the same venue on Friday 3 June.
Limited early bird tickets for both shows will go on sale from 10am this Tuesday 8 March, giving patrons access to discounted tickets and priority seats until Monday 14 March.
The full Queensland Cabaret Festival program will be announced in the coming weeks. For more info and tickets, visit brisbanepowerhouse.org.
