Brisbane Powerhouse is ready to entertain you this December with a festival celebrating entertainment, food and laughter.
It’s a festival with a difference, combining night food markets, outdoor performance tents and a variety of burlesque, circus, cabaret, comedy, music, poetry, theatre and vaudeville shows.
Brisbane Powerhouse Artistic Director, Kris Stewart, says the Wonderland Festival, which debuted last year, is a great way to celebrate Brisbane summer and enjoy the precinct surrounding the Powerhouse.
“We invite everyone in Brisbane to come out with their friends and family to soak up the carnival vibes, catch a show or two and taste some of the delightful treats on offer.”
Headliners this year include the internationally acclaimed variety stars Glorybox: La Revolución fresh from a hit South American tour.
“Glorybox have toured the world with their brand of raucous and subversive entertainment and will have everyone thrilled with their circus, burlesque and musical talents,” says Mr Stewart.
Another addition to the line up will be rock star comedy duo Die Roten Punkte, who will bring their hilarious new show KUNST ROCK (Art Rock) to the stage. The squabbling siblings are The White Stripes gone wrong and make for a fun evening of comedy, rock’n’roll and pop.
“We’re also welcoming Songs for the Fallen, fresh from a smash-hit Broadway season. The musical celebrates the life of French courtesan Marie Duplessis, the inspiration for Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge.
“We are also excited to have the hit show I Want To Know What Love Is returning to the stage. The show is based on 800 anonymous stories and throws a spotlight on love, lust, crushes and conquests and is directed by Dan Evans,” says Mr Stewart.
A new addition to the event will be the Bamboozled Tents. Each week the tents will offer a variety of shows in repertoire running between 6pm and 10pm each evening. Included in the shows will be circus, vaudeville, mime, comedy and even a flea circus.
The Wonderland Food Markets will be held from 3 to 20 December, running from Thursday to Sunday each week and will provide a selection of ready-to-eat treats from Jan Powers’ providores.
