The Openair Cinemas are back with a bang this October, once again bringing music by day and movies by night to Brisbane’s iconic Rainforest Green at South Bank.
Brisbane is the first stop on the quintessential outdoor event’s national tour, which last year saw 130,000 Aussie festivalgoers attend and consume 160,000 scoops of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.
This year, the festival is predicting to draw a crowd of 150,000 from across the nation.
Open Tuesday to Sunday throughout the season, and with live music from an array of Brisbane’s best up-and-coming artists every Sunday, punters can expect to enjoy an alfresco cinema experience with friendly festival vibes like no other.
Local Gold Coast solo artist Taylor Moss will be performing on the Opening Night, while Ben & Jerry’s will be holding a Battle of the Bands online to hunt for the best up-and-coming act to open the stage for the first Sundae Session before hot young Brisbane duo Neighbour on Sunday 4 October. Other local acts set to perform throughout the season include The Company, Mzaza and The Altais.
Films on offer include an assortment of the latest and greatest new releases and the best cult favourites, including:
- The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
- Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
- We Are Your Friends
- American Ultra
- Straight Outta Compton
- Thelma & Louise (25th Anniversary Screening)
This season, for the first time Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas are offering Brisbane locals a tiered pricing structure for general admission tickets, and are also offering a reduced GA concession ticket available online for just $10 ($12 for Sundae Sessions).
An earlybird special offer of $12 ($14 for Sundae Sessions) will be available for GA tickets in the opening week of ticket sales, from 13-19 August. A second release offer of $15 ($17 for Sundae Sessions) will be available for GA tickets from 20 August, and for last-minute festivalgoers, GA tickets will be available for $18 ($20 for Sundae Sessions) online from 28 September until Closing Night, and $22 on the gate during the season. All other ticket categories remain the same price throughout the season.
Adding a touch of comfort to a night under the stars, deckchairs, bean loungers and blankets can be hired as part of the ticket packages available. Complementing the entertainment line-up is a fully licensed bar stocked with a wide selection of Giesen wines, an assortment of beer and cider, and Vespa Pizza will be serving up a delicious range of signature salads and gourmet pizzas.
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be cooling down the balmy Brisbane evenings with a range of legen-dairy flavours and for those who can’t get enough of the sweet stuff, Ben & Jerry’s will be scooping up free ice cream for every Sundae Session. As always, the Sundae Sessions also include a host of lawn games including Putt Putt, Pick-a-Pat and Giant Cow Jenga.
On top of all this, Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas will be the ultimate place to kick start the weekend each and every Friday as Aperol Sunsets will see the best local DJs take to the decks to provide the perfect musical backdrop for Aperol Spritz sundowners, with free samples available for over 18s.
Brisbane is the first stop of the nationwide Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas tour which will go on to excite audiences in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and Perth.
