It’s time to test your skills behind the wheel in a series of Top Gear-style challenges to help raise funds for people living with diabetes.

Held at Mount Cotton Training Centre in Cornubia, Diabetes Queensland’s Hot Pursuit will see you competing in a series of challenges, for the top of the leader board and the Hot Pursuit cup.

The event will feature a thrilling line up of cars as well as celebrity guest drivers like Titans rugby league legends Preston Campbell and Clinton Toopi and Commonwealth Gold Medallist Boxer Jarrod Fletcher.

Guest driver, Clinton Toopi is the founder of Fabruary, an organisation committed to raising awareness of health risks like obesity, diabetes and heart disease in Australia. He said Hot Pursuit supports a great cause, which is why he got involved.

“I have friends who suffer from diabetes which is closely tied in with obesity, so helping support Diabetes Queensland, is really something close to me,” he says. “I like that the event is a different dynamic and it engages people, you can support the cause and have fun while you’re doing it.”

Clinton says the event will be an exciting experience for everyone.

“You’ll really get the chance to challenge yourself,” he says. “Everybody thinks they’re a Lewis Hamilton (British Formula One racing driver) at some stage in their life and this is a great chance to do it for real.

“It’s all under safe conditions too, and it’s a controlled environment where you can just have fun and let loose.”

Some of the challenges on the day include Go to Whoa, Timed Lap, Skid and Mighty Manoeuvres, all designed to test your driving skills in different conditions.

Clinton says he is very competitive and can’t wait to compete against his mate Preston Campbell in the challenges.

“It will be fun for Preston and I, we are very competitive. He’s the safer driver though, the grandpa of us so he’ll be really cautious, but I’ll just let loose.”

“It doesn’t matter if I’m in a (Toyota) Yaris or a (Toyota) AE86, I’m taking everybody out,” he laughs.

Guest driver Jarrod Fletcher is also excited to be part of the event.

“I jumped on board because it’s for a real good cause and I like to help out wherever I can,” he says. “I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel and doing the challenges. It will be good to get in a car with some power.

“Overall, I think it will be a great day for everyone.”

Along with the various challenges, the event will hold 4WD experiences, road simulator challenges, as well as an awards ceremony and an auction. You’ll also have the chance to don the grog goggles and walk the line.

Hot Pursuit will be held on Sunday 13 September at Mount Cotton Training Centre in Cornubia. Tickets are $420 per person. In a special August offer, you can buy two tickets for the price of one — just in time for Father’s Day!
