The second annual Rods and Rockabilly Festival is back this weekend.
Following the success of the first Rockabilly festival in 2014, the Hamilton Hotel is pleased to host the second of its kind this weekend.
The Rods and Rockabilly Festival was born from an idea shared between the Hamilton Hotel Venue Manager, Steve Searles, and staff who were interested in the scene. Steve says there is a big Rockabilly community in Brisbane,
“We discovered that there was an entire music community hungry for more events like this,” he says. “It was a great event last year and we are keen to continue to provide excellent entertainment for the Rockabilly community in 2015. We are anticipating bigger crowds, and an electric festival atmosphere.”
The festival will feature live rockabilly bands, Kustom Kulture markets, hot rods, bikes, a pin-up competition, burlesque performances, art show and photography exhibition.
The pin-up competition is a highlight of the festival and is definitely not your average beauty pageant. These are rock ‘n’ roll girls at heart, who belong in the era of the ’50s with all the glamour – and full skirts- of that time! Penny Spitfire from Greenslopes, one of the girls entering this year’s competition, will also be shaving her head live on stage in support of The Leukemia Foundation’s “Shave For A Cure.”
The Rods and Rockabilly festival will be held this Saturday, March 21 at Hamilton Hotel. For more information, please see our Event Guide listing.
