Hop on board a Brisbane City Council bus and let them chauffeur you around Brisbane’s best Christmas lights.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk is inviting residents to enjoy the sparkle of this year’s Christmas lights on a Council bus tour journeying through the city’s most spectacularly lit suburbs.
The Lord Mayor said the Council Christmas lights bus tours would run nightly and would showcase some of the winning entries from the annual 4KQ Christmas Lights competition.
“The 4KQ Christmas Lights competition is one of the biggest and best Christmas light displays in Australia,” Cr Quirk said. “Now in its 28th year, the Christmas Lights competition will run from Monday, 15 December until Friday, 19 December.
“Each year, hundreds of homes and entire neighbourhoods across the city are decorated with brilliant lights and dazzling displays by residents hoping to spread some festive cheer.
“Council first launched the Christmas lights bus tours in 1992 to make it easier people to sit back and enjoy the seasonal spectacle these homes have to offer.”
The tours run for about three hours, with buses departing at 6:45pm and returning at approximately 9:45pm from the following bus stops:
- Ann Street, City Anzac Square: Northern, southern, and western suburbs
- Carindale Shopping Centre Eastern suburbs only
- Garden City Shopping Centre: Southern suburbs only
- Indooroopilly Shopping Centre: Western suburbs only
- Chermside Shopping Centre: Northern suburbs only
Tickets are now on sale, and must be pre-purchased through Ticketek and cannot be bought at the bus door. The tour cost is $22 for adults, $11 for pensioners and children, $11 for full-time students and $50 for families with two adults and two children, plus transaction fees.
Christmas Lights bus tours will also depart the Ipswich City Council car park (45 Roderick Street) at 7pm. A light supper and comfort stop is provided at the Ipswich Visitor Information Centre in Queens Park. Tours depart sharply at 7pm and are planned to conclude at 9:30pm. Due to traffic and congestion around some light displays, the conclusion of tours may be delayed by up to half an hour.
Bookings for the Ipswich tours are also essential. Head to www.discoveripswich.com.au to book. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for children (up to 14 years), concessions and students.
