This November University of Queensland will host the first ever Eat Your Words Festival, an entirely free event celebrating both amateur and professional writers in Brisbane.
Featuring six Brisbane authors, this event will provide an opportunity for amateur and professional writers alike to come together and bounce ideas off each other, play games and hear success stories.
The 2014 author line-up will include Michael Gerard Bauer, Craig Bolland, Rebecca Jessen, Andrew McMillen, Ellen van Neerven and Samantha Wheeler.
van Neerven, Bolland, Jessen and Wheeler will be running writing workshops and discussions and acting as mentors for any budding writers, and Andrew McMillen will discuss his latest book and provide insight into this exciting industry.
Director Rosie Morley discusses the overall purpose of the event. “I’m passionate about this festival because I think that writers need more opportunities to gather together and learn from each other, and that’s what we’re trying to do. We want to foster cultural growth in Brisbane and help writers. It’s important for writers to support their peers, which is why we’ve chosen to feature local authors.”
Working in conjunction with the UQ Writers’ Club, all of the featured authors’ works will be on sale at the Co-op Bookshop on campus.
The Eat Your Words Festival will be held on Sunday November 30. For more info, check out our Event Guide Listing.
