On Sunday 12 October, you should head down to Brisbane’s biggest FREE bi-annual community and premier sustainability event, The Green Heart Fair.
This event is all about promoting innovative green living in a fun, family-friendly environment and you can expect more than 100 leading sustainability organisations, community groups, artisans, foodies, green-thumbs, conservationists, businesses and eco experts to be there greeting you with smiles.
There will also be delicious food, live entertainment and lots of handy information about making your lifestyle more eco-friendly on any budget.
This includes the latest in sustainable living options and up-to-date advice on how to reduce the rising cost of living, with sustainable businesses and organisations presenting their products and services on the day. Attendees will be entertained throughout the event with music from local artists West Texas Crude, The Good Ole Boys and The Vernons, as well as plenty of other activities.
See yourself as a budding chef who likes to cook healthy and organic meals? Then you’ll want to see the cooking demonstrations from My Kitchen Rules’ favourites, surfer dads Paul and Blair and Two Old Ducks in the Westpac Grow. Eat.Live marquee. You can also stop by the Simply Green interactive marquee for an all day Q&A with gardening guru Annette McFarlane and growing local expert Rolf Keulsen. Here you can pick up facts about keeping healthy hens and buzzing bees in the backyard. Anyone for homegrown eggs and honey?
In addition to this, there will be many easy-to-implement ideas for sustainable living, including energy saving projects, easy eco-friendly cleaning solutions for the home, Hembrows solar energy and Home Fresh Organics’ delicious and locally sourced organic produce delivered straight to your door.
Are you a commuter? Then you might want to learn more about electric and hybrid vehicles from Nissan Moorooka, find out about Brisbane City Council’s Cycling Brisbane initiative, speak to leading portable navigation experts Magellan or enjoy the jaw-dropping Expressive Bikes stunt show.
Fashionistas are taken care of too as there will be a fashion frenzy expected at the Fair and fair-goers can learn how to be both stylish and sustainable with fashion and beauty tips from Brisbane’s hottest eco-fashion leaders Peppermint magazine, an array of BrisStyle Markets local exhibitors and Arbonne Australia’s botanical health and beauty products.
As a creative novelty, Australia’s largest creative re-use centre, Reverse Garbage, will be running an interactive arts project where Brisbane residents of all ages can fashion take home flower pot people from recycled materials.
For kids, they will discover that sustainable living can be fun, courtesy of ABC’s eco-warrior dirtgirlworld who will demonstrate how to plant your own veggies and herbs. Kids will also enjoy native wildlife shows by Geckos Wildlife Presentations and a highlight is sure to be the Peppa Pig ‘Jump in Muddy Puddles’ stage show. While they’re there they can also get their face painted, climb the rock wall or bounce around in the obstacle course – all for free!
Budding young Reds players can pick up tips through the Rookies2Reds program, the ball game is coming to the Fair thanks to Brisbane Bandits, children of all abilities can improve their football skills with the Brisbane Paralympic Football program and the littlest soccer enthusiasts will enjoy skills and drills from Little Kickers.
