The bmag Week of Golf is a five-day tournament with a prize pool big enough to entice any golfer who can hold a club to enter.

This is an event for lovers of golf and the bonus is that it caters to people of all levels of expertise. Running from September 14-19, this event was developed after a similar concept from many years ago gave an extra incentive to the up-and-coming professionals and was eagerly attended by both amateur and professional golfers.

The event provides the opportunity for an up-and-coming professional to offset one of the major costs to break into the bigger circuits around the world, which is travel. Even though other national and international tournament entry fees are quite low by comparison, the travel costs involved in getting to destinations such as Japan, the US or Europe for tour-qualifying schools or tournaments are very high.

One of the largest benefits to Brisbane golf clubs taking part in the bmag Week of Golf is the dual advantage of having both daily prize winners and an overall tournament winner. Therefore if the Pro Am competitors have an average day on the green, they might not be in the prize money for that day but are still in contention for the week and the overall prize.

Here at bmag, we wanted to contribute something impressive and thus decided that the grand prize will be 500,000 Frequent Flyer points. A prize this large has created significant interest around the country, and has resulted in a lift in field quality for all clubs involved. This year, the bmag Week of Golf has been expanded to include Brisbane’s newest golf entertainment complex, Golf Central Brisbane.

The week now also includes the Hole in One Shootout which sees Amateurs and Professionals line up side by side with two swings each to try and win $5,000 cash and other great prizes in what is sure to be a fantastic start to the bmag Week of Golf!

As an added incentive this year, in addition to the grand prize of 500,000 Frequent Flyer points, the competition is also offering a second place prize of a $2,000 voucher from Choice Hotels. Choice Hotels are also the sponsor of the PGA Pro Am Series.

For the amateurs who play in any Choice Hotels PGA Pro Am Series event throughout 2014, they will be eligible to win ‘The Golf Trip of a Lifetime’ to Mission Hills Golf Resort, China. Included in the prize will be return flights to Hong Kong, four nights accommodation, three rounds of golf and $1,000 in spending money.

With the extra interest and lift in player quality, the ultimate goal would be to see one of the winners of the bmag Week of Golf in one of the final groups of our own Australian major tournaments. Or even better, finding international success on one the other world tours as a direct result of the Frequent Flyer Points prize (which will allow them to travel the globe and work their way up the World Rankings).
