As we approach the 37th anniversary of the death of the King of Rock and Roll, there would be no better way to celebrate his memory than the return tour of one of his most famous and authentic impersonators, Max Pellicano.

Elvis to the Max, starring Max Pellicano and an 18-piece orchestra, is back by popular demand and touring Queensland this month.

After graduating from the Arts program at California State University, and scoring the lead in the famous Broadway production Bye Bye Birdie (inspired by Elvis Presley’s life), so began Max’s journey as the new King of Rock and Roll. “I was even in a couple of shakespearean plays, if you can imagine Elvis in Shakespearian plays!”

After being blown away by his performance, a promoter offered him a gig in Hawaii, where he ended up spending three years as an Elvis impersonator. “It seemed like everything I was doing pointed to Elvis after that,” he says.

It was his extensive acting experience that helped Pellicano really inhabit his new role. However, gaining the title as ‘The Resurrected Elvis’ was no easy feat, and Max believes that authenticity is key in standing out from the other 85,000 Elvis impersonators worldwide.

“I still study him quite a bit. It’s important to go back and watch his live videos, you know, because you incorporate that into your act. If I’m singing one of his songs on stage I want to try and recreate it as closely as I can because that’s what people remember.”

As well as an orchestra, Max will be joined on tour by a huge array of exact replica Elvis costumes, designed by none other than The King’s personal tailor, Bill Bellow. “I’ve got the Eagle suit, I’ve got the sundial outfit that Elvis wore for his very last concert. The suits are made right off the Elvis patterns.”

Most importantly to Pellicano’s recreation is letting his audience fall in love with the personality of Elvis all over again. “His personality really touched people. I mean, the Elvis fans are unbelievable, they really know the stuff. You can’t fool them.”

As Elvis himself was never able to tour internationally while he was alive, Max and his tour promise to once again bring the next best thing to Australia this August.
