Anthony Callea will bring the classic hits of George Michael to a Brisbane audience.

Anthony Callea is celebrating his 10th year since walking onto the Australian Idol stage with a tribute to one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century – George Michael.

“This started from a really fun and somewhat self-indulgent place,” says Callea. “I love singing his music and it is music that everyone has had as a part of their lives for the last thirty years.”

The Ladies & Gentlemen, The Songs of George Michael tour will cross Australia, bringing timeless classics to audiences around the country.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun, being able to take it on the road and go across the country,” says Callea, adding that he’s excited to be coming back to Brisbane after spending seven weeks here last year.

“I love James Street – I’d move to Brisbane just for James Street! I knew every shop owner and every café owner… I’d have an espresso martini every day then I’d go to work and do Grease,” he says with a laugh.

Callea says the music requires a level of emotional maturity to conquer. “If I did this five years ago I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it as well,” he says. “The thing with George Michael music is it’s timeless, like Whitney, like Elton John – as a musician and a singer he is up there with the best.

“I’m not intending to emulate his voice or to replicate his sound – it’s just a matter of putting my stamp on it, because you’d be stupid to think you could sound like George Michael.”

Ladies & Gentlemen, The Songs of George Michael brings Anthony Callea to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday 11 October. For tickets, head to
