More than 8,000 Brisbane locals will flock to South Bank this Friday when the MDA LUMINOUS Lantern Parade brightens the Parklands…

Take a walk on the bright side at the MDA LUMINOUS Lantern Parade this Friday 6 June from 5:30pm.

Celebrating all walks of life, MDA LUMINOUS is intended to welcome our newest Queenslanders as part of state-wide festivities for Queensland Week.

Hand-made and professional lanterns will be distributed throughout the Parklands to be carried by Brisbane’s migrant and refugee communities, business leaders and other locals.

The two-hour dazzling display of light will include a free concert headlined by Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens, as well as renowned didgeridoo player William Barton and Queensland Poetry Slam finalist Erfan Daliri.

MDA chief Kerrin Benson says in its sixth year, the parade has made its mark on the Queensland event calendar.

“MDA LUMINOUS has established itself as a bright, colourful and unique gesture of welcome to all people from around the world who have made Queensland home,” says Benson.

“The end result is a more coherent, understanding and harmonious community where we call all go together about the business of building a strong and prosperous future for all Queenslanders.”

The magic illuminated from the lanterns, music and other cultural performances are always a hit with the kids, making the evening a great family outing.
