The Columbian Independence Day Festival is set to hit Brisbane this year with a bang!

The festival, the first of its kind in Brisbane, celebrates Colombian culture and the anniversary of independence from Spanish rule on July 20.

The Aguila Colombian Independence Day Festival is a vibrant street style festival, celebrated annually all over the world.

The festivities include lots of food, too many beverages, and music and dancing that goes on all night long.

Another plus? All ticketholders will go into the draw to win an all-expenses paid trip to the Whitsundays, which will be drawn at the festival.

GPO is already a supporter of the culture, with ‘Casa Latina’ being one of Brisbane’s only authentic Latin venues. The venue caters largely to Colombian students and expats settling in Brisbane.

Co-owner and Event Manager at GPO, Leah Cattanach says, “we’ve put on some fantastic Latin events over the past two years and in turn have bonded well with the Latin community.

“Brisbane is definitely growing as a multicultural city and it’s reflected in the amount of cultural activities and entertainment on offer. Brisbane has come a long way, and we are excited to present the Colombian Independence Day Festival to the Latin community and Brisbane locals.”

Major sponsors for the event include Aguila, Diageo, Southtrade, Suntori and Link Australia, all of whom are banking on the festival joining the likes of Paniyiri, Chinese New Year and Oktoberfest as a Brisbane institution.

The event will be held just outside GPO in Fortitude Valley with Nova talk-show hosts Kip and Luttsy from midday on Sunday 20 July.
