The third Art from Your Heart art auction is calling on Brisbane residents to help raise vital funds for world without domestic violence.
Join Brisbane’s artists and celebrities on 16 May at Art from Your Heart to help us raise vital funds for a world without family violence – where homes are places of safety and care for all members.
The third Art from Your Heart auction, organised by Australia’s CEO Challenge, is held in May because it is Queensland’s Domestic Violence Prevention Month. The auction aims to exceed its goal of raising $20,000 on the night.
Two people (mostly women and children) die from domestic violence every week. It is Australia’s silent epidemic. Domestic violence costs Australian businesses alone at least $1.5 billion per year in direct, indirect and lost opportunity costs.
Art from Your Heart is fundraising for Australia’s CEO Challenge, a charity that works with the business sector and domestic violence services to improve resources and support for those affected by domestic violence.
Yvonne Mills-Stanley, an artist regularly exhibiting in New York, Judy Glen, comic diva who has played leading roles in musicals including The Sound of Music and the Irwin family have all contributed to the auction by capturing the love and essence of their family on canvas.
Art from your Heart also provided canvases and paints to children in Australia’s CEO Challenge’s partnered refuges, so that they could have a few hours working on what a happy family means to them. These children have fled their home with their mothers to these domestic violence where they are provided with safe and secure accommodation away from their perpetrator.
Children’s exposure to domestic and family violence in the home can severely affect their well-being on a variety of levels including their emotional welfare, self-worth and development. An important role of the refuge staff is to look after both mothers and children, often rehabilitating learned behaviours, reassuring the children that the abuse and violence is not their fault, and teaching the children that violence does not belong in a healthy relationship.
Money raised from Art from your Heart will be donated to the Combined Women’s Refuge Group.
