In the month of May, one of Australia’s leading independent theatre platforms will partner with QPAC to feature three unmissable productions.

La Boite Indie, a platform of Brisbane’s La Boite Theatre Company, is set to kick off its 2014 season with three productions showcasing throughout May: 4000 Miles, Mullah Nasrudin and Machina.

La Boite Indie enters its fifth year in 2014 and continues its nurturing of Brisbane’s independent theatre culture.

Program Manager Glyn Roberts says he finds it inspirational to see unknown independent companies find their feet with La Boite Indie.

“La Boite Indie has acted as a springboard for organisations,” says Roberts.

“For example A Tribute of Sorts came to life in 2012 with La Boite Indie, and will now feature as a part of Queensland Theatre Company’s season later this year.

“And no one can forget This Is Capital City by Sandra Caluccio, a ground-breaking digital performance, who has been invited to remount the production at QPAC.”

4000 Miles (30 April – 17 May) follows the story of a 21-year-old who arrives unannounced at the apartment of his 91-year-old Jewish grandmother in Manhattan. The production, by Amy Herzog, won the 2012 Obie Award and was nominated for two 2013 Sydney Theatre Awards.
