Learn something new in 2014 with a range of free and low cost workshops at The Edge, State Library of Queensland.
If you have made a new year’s resolution to gain new skills or try something new, there are 12 short course subjects that may spark some interest and most of them are free!
The Edge’s Creative Production Manager Daniel Flood says that offering free and low cost courses was part of The Edge’s mission to empower creative experimentation.
“The Edge has a huge range of high-end creative facilities available to the public for free, from software such as Final Cut, ProTools and Ableton to hardware like drawing tablets and audio and video recording equipment.
“However, we know that it’s important to provide accessible training alongside these tools,” he says.
The Edge’s short courses are in easy to follow beginners sessions, but when you feel up for it there are intermediate and advanced workshops.
Blended courses are also available, combining skillsets for different industries. These blended courses offer 19 hours of small group training, along with an hour of personalised support from a facilitator and entry to other Edge events for $199.
There is a Marketing & Small Business blended course that offers training in WordPress, Photoshop, InDesign and online communication and a Screen & Sound course that provides expertise in multimedia documentation, from video and audio production to photography.
And if that doesn’t interest maybe the Fashion & Science course is more your speed, which brings an opportunity to create custom, quirky fabrics and garments or get creative with the Bits & Bots course and learn about robotics, 3D printing and programming.
Courses run from February to May 2014 and are the perfect opportunity to learn something new this year!
