December in the city will be jam-packed with events and special Christmas celebrations – we’ve picked our top five to help you get in the Christmas spirit!
1. Myer Christmas Parade & Pantomine
This year the Myer Christmas Parade & Pantomine returns with a classic Christmas theme – the Nutcracker. Partnering with Queensland Ballet and featuring over 200 talented performers, the Parade kicks off at the Edward Street end of the Queen Street Mall and travels through to King George Square at 6.30pm every day from 13 to 22 December.
2. BrisStyle Indie Twilight Christmas Market
On 13 December King George Square will be invaded with Christmas cheer and indie products! Shop for a unique gift from over 80 local artisans who specialise in producing handmade wares with a Queensland twist! Brisbane’s premier jazz bands will be providing the music for a night of late night Christmas shopping like you’ve never experienced!
3. Gold Lotto City Hall Light Spectacular
New to the city this year, the Gold Lotto City Hall Light Spectacular will be lighting up the iconic building from 13 December until Christmas Eve with fabulous Christmas characters and stories. At 7.30pm every night the clock tower will sound to mark the start of the 3D animated show which follows the story of The Nutcracker as the doll is made and meets an enchanting collection of Christmas characters and toys. This one is sure to delight!
4. World by Night
From 6pm to 10pm on 20 December this annual event will heat up Reddacliff Place with music and dancing from all over the world with the Ethno Australia Orchestra. With African drumming and the Argentine tango you can dance all night under the stars or check out the craft markets for any last minute gift ideas.
5. IGA Lord Mayor’s Carols in the City
Pack your picnic rug and head to the Riverstage at the City Botanic Gardens for the annual Carols in the City! This premier family event is one of Brisbane’s oldest Christmas traditions and this year features headline artists Paulini, Jack Vidgen, Silvie Paladino and many more!
