Joe Camilleri, Vince Jones and Vika Bull pay thrilling tribute to the music of Van Morrison
Van the man would have to be impressed when he sees the calibre of musicians Joe Camilleri, Vince Jones and Vika Bull presenting his classic songs in Here Comes the Night at QPAC concert hall on Friday 22 November.
The enduring Van Morrison classics as Gloria, Moondance, Brown Eyed Girl, Bright Side of the Road, Have I Told You Lately, Days Like This, Baby Please Don’t Go, Here Comes the Night and many more will be showcased by these exceptional talents, accompanied by a stunning blended brass and string orchestra that promises to thrill his most dedicated fans. Joe Camilleri is the principal performer and Repertoire Director. A legend of Australian contemporary rock music through his bands Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons and The Black Sorrows, Joe has been a Van Morrison fan from the first stirrings of his interest in music. He says his knowledge of the Morrison Songbook combined with his understanding of Morrison’s R&B, Soul and Celtic arrangements make him the ideal celebrant of the genius of this enigmatic modern master.
Vince Jones is a regular headliner throughout Australia. He joins Joe to bring his own silky skills to Morrison’s jazz-oriented arrangements.
Vika Bull’s recent starring role in “At Last: Etta James” landed her under a solo spotlight and reminded music fans of the soulful clarity and energy that she added to Joe’s Black Sorrows. Morrison’s penchant for duet arrangements of his classics in concert provides an ideal vehicle for Joe, Vince and Vika to do likewise.
The 10-piece brass set Voodoo Sheiks and the Silo String Quartet will bring an eclectic blend of classical and jazz readings to allow music director John McCall the breadth of instrumentation the Van Morrison Songbook demands.
