Harvest Rain Theatre Company to showcase its first pro season on 18 November

Harvest Rain Theatre company will announce its 2014 line-up on Monday 18 November at QPAC Playhouse, marking its transition from amateur to professional status.

It is the first time since La Boite in 1993, that a Brisbane theatre company has made the move – and will deliver a season of professionally produced musicals.

Musical and theatre greats such as Jon English are lined up for the 2014 season, in which Harvest Rain promises to continue the high standard it has shown since it began in 1985 in Sydney St New Farm. The founding members of the company were brothers Robbie and David Parkin and husband and wife Chris and Judy Crooks. The name was so chosen because Chris liked harvest and the others put rain with it to soften it.

Since it began in 1985, Harvest Rain has produced many acclaimed theatre productions at a range of venues throughout Brisbane and from 2008, most of its major productions at QPAC’ s three venues at South Bank. The base of the company’s operations and training facility is at the Mina Parade Warehouse, Alderley.

The current artistic director isTim O’Connor. Previous were Robbie and David Parkin. The current chair of the board is Simon Gallaher.

Tim O’Connor says the company is widely respected for being a hub of creativity and professional development for emerging artists, and a launching pad from which many artists and smaller companies can develop and thrive.
