Museum of Brisbane’s Ink Remix exhibition invites the whole family to learn the ancient skill of Moon Festival lantern making during the school holidays. The Moon Festival Lantern workshops will run from Monday to Friday 19 – 30 September.
The workshops follow in Ink Remix’s steps of mixing ancient traditions with a contemporary edge. Participants will learn how to create their own lanterns with a raft of crafty materials and an experienced instructor on hand to guide them through the process.
The Moon Festival is celebrated on the 8th month and the 15th day of the lunar calendar and is one the most important festivals in Chinese and Taiwanese traditions. Traditionally Moon lanterns were created for celebration of peace, prosperity and family, with the earliest record of these celebrations taking place over 2000 years ago.
Let your children be inspired by the moon as they create their own lantern in this free hands-on workshop. Suitable for children aged 4 years and over.
The workshop is open Monday – Friday 10am – 1pm of the September school holidays. No bookings are required.
