The Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival is a series of six concerts held over three days at intimate venues in the stunning setting of North Stradbroke Island.
Three concerts are held at the Point Lookout Community Hall, one at the Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club, and two at the Dunwich Public Hall.
The 2015 festival is headlined by Cyril Garac, the most highly regarded tango violinist in Europe today, and Australian bandoneon player Maggie Ferguson, performing in a ‘Tango!’ concert at the SLSC.
Another highlight is the Saturday-morning ‘Bach and Birdsong’ concert of solo Bach pieces, preceded by Merlo coffee and muffins from the famed local beachside baristas.
The festival climaxes with the world premiere at the Sunday afternoon concert of an island-themed composition for piano and string quartet by Berlin-based composer Paul Hankinson.
The six-concert program includes other chamber music masterworks by Haydn, Dvorak, Schubert, Chausson and Sculthorpe.
