Feel like listening to some beautiful music? Then head to the State Library of Queensland who are hosting a series of pop-up concerts featuring Kupka’s Piano, The Australian Voices and the Rafael Karlen Quartet.

On Saturday May 16 between 11am and 4pm, stop in at the State Library of Queensland to take advantage of their free pop-up performances.

The talented and non-traditional group The Australian Voices will present two micro programs of Australian works. In case you’re wondering what to expect – you’ll probably hear the voice of a recent Prime Minister, an off-the-wall radio broadcast (in the shape of a choral piece) and words that morph into other words.

Seven piece Kupka’s Piano present works by Donatoni, Berio, Manoury and Wubbels as well as new works by Australian composers Alan Lawrence and Michael Bakrncev. Commissioned specifically, these new works have been inspired by the QANZAC 100 theme and commemorate our past and capture memories of Queensland’s experiences during and after the First World War.

Rafael Karlen Quartet takes things in a different direction, presenting a series of shorter pieces and episodes commissioned for The 2014 Brisbane International Jazz Festival. There will also be compositions from Rafael’s latest album, The Sweetness of Things Half-Remembered.
