Next month, Lord Graham Quirk and Brisbane City Council will launch a new initiative to uncover our city’s rising stars.
The event will become a new addition to the annual Youth Week calendar, with free live music events spanned over two weekends of next month
This battle-of-the-bands style event features musicians recording their performances on a cube-shaped stage that will be streamed online and voted on.
“Shortlisted bands have been selected by a panel of experts from 4ZZZ, QMusic, Brisbane Marketing and the Caloundra Music Festival and will be scheduled to play at one of the events for their chance to win over the audience for the top prize”, Cr Quirk said.
“The public will decide the winners of the People’s Choice Award, Best New Talent, and Best Original Song, which will be rewarded with cash prizes of up to $4000, and the chance to play at some of the city’s biggest events,” he said.
“Residents will be able to view the recorded songs via Council’s website and cast their vote for their favourite band from Friday 1 May to Friday 22 May, with the winner to be announced in early June.”
“I encourage friends, family members as well as the music-loving public to support this new music event and bring a crowd to support our up-and-coming local bands,” said Cr Quirk.
The QUBE Effect will kick off on Saturday the 11th of April at South Bank Parklands, and Sunday the 19th of April at Roma Street Parklands.
