Fans of cosplay and pop-culture can get excited as Supanova Pop Culture Industries and Brisbane Powerhouse are joining forces to present New Year’s Geek – a New Year’s eve celebration set to ring in 2015 with live music, DJs, trivia, retro arcade games, film screenings and a cosplay prom.

The event is a first for the venue, and will take over multiple spaces of the full ground level. Local band Boss Fight will perform amped-up versions of classic video game tunes at the cosplay prom in the Powerhouse Theatre, while DJs take to the central Turbine Platform and film, trivia and retro arcade games inhabit other areas.

Supanova event director Daniel Zachariou says they’re excited by the vision of the event as a unique new option for Brisbane party-goers on New Year’s Eve.

“New Year’s Geek is a wonderful opportunity to partner with Brisbane Powerhouse in creating a celebratory atmosphere to ring in 2015 that reflects the things our fans are passionate about including anime, comics, sci-fi, fantasy and gaming! It’s about fun and expressing your inner geek while having the opportunity to immerse yourself in cosplay personally or socially.

“The Brisbane Powerhouse is such a dynamic space, with an equally inspired team, meaning that fans can look forward to activities such as live music, DJs, trivia and film running simultaneously.

“New Year’s Geek has been created by geeks for the geek in all of us!”

Those who are serious about unleashing their inner Princess Leia, Power Ranger or Doctor Who can also enter the cosplay prom costume competition on the night.

Ticket pricing includes a complimentary drink and appetizer and free shuttle buses will be available to Fortitude Valley at the end of the night. Early bird tickets are now on sale and will be available until December 1 2014.
