With the weather starting to warm up again, it’s slowly but surely becoming more appealing to head outdoors for a run.

Not only is a run great for fitness, it’s also a fantastic way to de-stress, giving you a chance to clear your head while getting some fresh air.

Whether you’re a morning, afternoon or evening runner, there are plenty of great trails just waiting to be discovered. To help get your run routine sorted, here are seven great trails to explore around Brisbane.

Kangaroo Point Loop

If you need to fit your run around your inner-city lifestyle, the Kangaroo Point Cliffs are the perfect place to start. Starting your run along the cliffs at sunrise or sunset will see you treated to our beautiful city sparkling in the golden sun.

You can do a great loop running along the cliffs down to the Story Bridge and either carrying on into the city or doubling back and tackling the Kangaroo Point Stairs on your way back.

They’ll test you, but you’ll be thanking them later when you’ve got buns of steel!

Enoggera Creek Bikeway

Don’t let the word ‘bikeway’ throw you off your game — joggers are more than welcome to hit the predominantly flat path running through the Enoggera Creek Reserve.

The great thing about this route is it offers some real distance for those with the stamina, with up to 10km of pristine pathway taking you through lush greenery.

If you time your run for the weekend you can stop in at the Northey Street Markets, or do a loop starting and ending there, so you can treat yourself to food and coffee afterwards. Bliss.

Mt Coot-tha

If great views are your thing, strap on your shoes and head out to Mt Coot-tha for views stretching all the way out to Stradbroke and Moreton Islands and beyond.

Park your car at the JC Slaughter Falls picnic area and head out on the 1.9km Summit Track. It’ll take around 30 minutes or so to make your way up to the lookout, and once you get there you’ll be able to soak in those million dollar views.

If you find the Summit Track a tad too easy, add the Honeyeater Track on for an extra challenge and run your way through the bushland.

South Bank

Another top pick for inner-city life, the best time to hit the pavement in South Bank is one of those typically gorgeous, long summer afternoons Brisbane is famous for.

As the sun starts to set and the weather cools down, head out along the Goodwill Bridge and down toward River Quay and the Cultural Centre. Cross over the Kurilpa Bridge and back up to North Quay.

You’ll be able to watch the city lights twinkle off the river and, if you need the extra challenge, can add a winding path through the Botanical Gardens on at the end.

Roma Street Parklands

If you haven’t been to the Roma Street Parklands recently, you’re really missing out. The gardens here are absolutely gorgeous, especially at this time of year, with flowers in bloom and everything looking lovely and lush.

A jog here will see you winding your way through some really beautiful parts of the Parklands, which make it a top pick for getting back to nature and feeling your stress melt away.


For a great waterfront run, you can’t beat this Newstead trail beginning at Waterfront Park. Keep your eyes out for a sign marked Riverwalk, follow it down to the ferry terminal and keep going.

The track will lead you down to Gasworks and onward to the Powerhouse and New Farm Park. The path makes the run easy and, if you go at dusk, you’ll get to watch the sun set and the waterfront come alive with twinkling lights.

Daisy Hill

Love to run with your dog? A great weekend trail to explore is The Spotted Gum Trail in Daisy Hill Regional Park.

It’s an on-leash area so you and your four-legged friend can get some much needed time outdoors together, winning your way through some really beautiful bushland.

You can also make your way to the quarry, where Rover can jump in for a swim and you can catch your breath for a few minutes before heading back.
