Two Brisbane Councillors have joined forces to fund Brisbane’s first outdoor gym and recreation facility in Tingalpa.

Brisbane’s first outdoor gym has been planned for Tingalpa

The Minnipi Parklands’ $250,000 facility will be shaded and is planned to include the following gym equipment:

Cross trainer, treadmill, hand bike, recumbent bike, lateral pull down and shoulder press, leg press and oblique, dips and leg raise, pull up and assisted pull up and bench.

Chandler Ward Councillor Adrian Schrinner and Doboy Ward Councillor Ryan Murphy said the facility would feature modern outdoor exercise equipment and a multi-use games court.

“We are pleased to announce the construction of this city-first outdoor gym, which will help residents from Carindale, Tingalpa and surrounding suburbs to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle without the need for expensive gym memberships,” Cr Schrinner says.

Cr Murphy said the project was part of Council’s vision for creating a clean, green and active city.

“The outdoor gym is just another way we are ensuring a great park experience for visitors…we are always looking for new ways to improve Brisbane’s recreational spaces.

“Across Brisbane we have more than 2,000 parks which we are continually improving through initiatives such as free Wi-Fi, deck chairs and accessible play equipment,” he says.

Construction is expected to begin in 2014.
