The race won’t be the only thing that stops a nation this year. This season’s range of spring fashion is set to steal the show trackside.
Think pops of colour from orange, green and yellow, to jewel pink and sapphire blue; or harness the ever popular black and whites when picking your punter garb. Indooroopilly Shopping Centre stylist, Laura Churchill, is tipping florals for the win though.
“Florals are always big for spring racing, and this year is no exception. Florals are a big trend for SS15, particularly in beautiful pastel tones, as well as more vibrant prints like those found at Manning Cartell and Ted Baker.”
Laura has judged Fashions on the Field for Brisbane Racing Club over the past seven years, and says the finishing touches are what will get you over the line come race day.
“A well-put together look always stands out in the crowd, and it’s the extra details that make the difference. Every detail from the shape and colour of the headpiece coordinating perfectly with the dress, to well matched shoes, statement jewellery from Max & Co. or Georg Jensen and a handbag, all go together to create a winning look.”
If there’s one thing to put money on, Laura says it’s statement headwear; from small headpieces, fascinators and crowns, to hats with broader brims, which will be on trend trackside this year.
“They perform better on the grass, and will save you from very sore feet at the end of the day.”
This year menswear is also set to turn heads, with fresh suits in shades of blue, grey or navy, paired with crisp collared shirts. Go for the trifecta, and finish the look off with a pocket chief, tie and leather shoes.
