In the city that never sleeps, anything goes when it comes to style.
I’ve just gotten back from a whirlwind trip to New York City, fortuitously timed to coincide with the fashion event of a lifetime – New York Fashion Week.

This fashion mecca attracted all sorts of style to the streets – some fashionistas were even happy to just stand around outside events and mill with the crowd of fashion elite in outfits that could have been stolen from the runway.
Monochromatic shades were a crowd favourite, with classic black and white combinations clearly dominating.
MTV Presenter Louise Roe was one of many wearing a short sleeve leather jacket strewn over her shoulders in cape-like fashion. Given that it was more than 30 degrees in Manhattan and manageable, this could be a creative way to wear a jacket throughout our hot Queensland summer!
Black and white certainly didn’t equal boring, with many outfits getting quite graphic. From retro Ann Taylor two-pieces to Laposhe label’s snowflake-style prints, Finnish design company and Marimekko’s horse play two-piece from their Autumn collection, there was no limit to the lavish designs.
Tassels were everywhere you turned. Even actress and fashion blogger, Jamie Chung, was spotted sporting a fringed cape by BCBG Maxazria, combined with an A-line Lovers + Friends skirt.
Saint Laurent handbags as always were the clutch of choice, while some opted for a more Mary Poppins approach with bags that could fit half the house! Brahmin’s range of bigger bags were another fashion favourite.
As far as accessories go metallic gold embellishments were the flavour of the month, adding the finishing touches to the two tones.
