Frock Up Brisbane: The Way We Wear Vintage Fair is Queensland’s twice yearly vintage fashion fair and is set to the Mount Gravatt Showgrounds Community Hall and Pavilion this month.
Established in 2007, this event has grown from a handful of dealers selling on one level of the community hall to a fair that now has up to thirty dealers spanning two levels of the community hall and in the adjoining pavilion. There will be vintage and retro clothing ranging from fabulous flapper dresses from the 1920s to smartly cut suits from the 1940s, micro minis from the 1960s and big shouldered dresses from the 1980s.
There will also be modern day designer label outfits along with rack after rack of clothing for you to rumble through.A wealth of fashion accessories and jewellery costing from a few dollars to a few thousand will also be up for grabs.
In 2011 fair organisers also introduced a vintage UK retro and vintage home-wares line to the event dating back to 1940. Amongst the home-wares you will find everything from Blue Lady paintings to Laminex kitchen settings.
If you’re in the mood for something tasty don’t forget the popular Katie’s Sweethearts Vintage Cafe on the lower level of the community hall will be open for business. There will also be a special vintage dressmaking class on Saturday afternoon for anyone with a bit of fashion flair who has an interest in making their own vintage dresses. If you’re not handy with a needle and thread there will be vintage fashion films running continually during the fair .
Musical group the Eastside Belles will also be on hand to entertain the crowd with music from the twenties to the sixties.
