Oscar Oscar stylist Kylie Gordon represented Redken at Sydney’s recent Fashion Week and gives us the low down on the latest in hair.
When the lights go up on a Fashion Week show and models present a designer’s collection with immaculate hair and makeup, this is the result of hours of work following months of planning from Australia’s most highly sought-after stylists.
Oscar Oscar Indooroopilly hair stylist Kylie Gordon was on the ground for the week, prepping models for several shows as part of the Redken styling team.
So what’s on her radar for the hottest and latest in hair?
“There were so many new looks and techniques that I was exposed to at MBFWA (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia),” she says.
“I am most excited about the textured and modern styles that are trending such as the low sleek ponytail, so simple yet so elegant and the effortless brushed-out waves, which gave hair a soft bohemian feel.
“Also a lot of crimping and tonging was used to create more daring looks with fuller volume, curls and texture.”
Proving disco isn’t dead, Gordon says one of her favourite looks accompanied the very sexy, 1970s-reminiscent collection from designers Lara Kovacevich and Lydia Tsvetnenko’s Perth label Zhivago.
“My favourite look was created by Richard Kavanagh for the Zhivago show as it had al modern-disco vibe to the hair, it was really fun,” she says.
Local talent Gail Sorronda’s collection was adorned with graphic headpieces, while hair was soft and sleek.
“The Gail Sorronda show had an organic feel with soft volume and texture portraying the elegance of the strong independent women which was the perfect match for her latest SS14 collection,” says Kylie.
