A new season is a great time for a new look. We asked Oscar Oscar Chermside for tips on the hottest trends in hair for the months ahead
Oscar Oscar Westfield Chermside stylist Michael Newton has had his eyes on the red carpet and monitored the tresses of some of Hollywood’s most leading ladies to identify the most covetable looks for winter 2014.
Colour-wise, block colour continues to be a strong trend, with beautiful blondes and reds always a popular choice for winter.
“For blondes it all about golden tones with warm, honey hues, as we are moving away from ash colours and warm up for the cooler months,” says Michael.
“The best celebrity examples include Cate Blanchett and Rosie Huntington.
“For redheads I really like dusty blush and auburn colours instead of the fiery coppers we have seen in previous seasons. Emma Stone’s colour at the Golden Globe awards is a great example of on-trend red hues.”
If you’re keen for a new cut, the versatile Jennifer Lawrence look can be styled in a multitude of ways to adapt from casual to red carpet seamlessly, says Michael.
“I absolutely love Jennifer Lawrence’s pixie cut with flexible styling techniques worn smooth, textured or flicked. This girl can do no wrong.”
The next most versatile and very ‘now’ length is a shoulder-skimming bob, says the stylist.
“The ‘it’ length for hair this season is a long bob the skims the shoulders and worn with texture and movement,” he says.
“Nicole Ritchie and Karlie Kloss are my favourite cool-girls that wear this look best.
“Just be sure to go for waves not curls. When it comes to styling it’s all about textured waves that are slightly dishevelled. Perfectly preened curls are definitely out!”
