Many of us dream of creating our perfect working wardrobe and having that corporate chic look, but solicitor Laura Chong has put it in to action.

Laura Chong gives corporate chic a whole new meaning. The entrepreneurial young lawyer has turned her desire for chic corporate style into a side-project inspired by her suit-bound circle. Her clothing line, The 400 Co, is now in its second season and features a range of dresses and separates Laura Chong says ‘gives savvy business women the opportunity to add some pizzazz to their work wardrobe’.

“I’ve never officially trained in fashion but my mum always made clothes and my granddad was a tailor, so I think it’s in me,” the designer says.

Flying to Asia twice a year (and eating up all her annual leave), Chong sources fabrics including European cottons and visits daily with her garment factory during sampling to ensure her pieces are produced to a high standard.

The current collection is titled Legally 400, with each of the designs having their own quirky name around the theme. The Adjournment dress is an ingenious reversible design in coordinating floral prints. The Civil Suit is a flattering skirt suit in timeless white, while the Genius jacket has its title embroidered in large white letters in the back lining for a secret hit of confidence for the stickiest of work situations.

“Everyone who’s tried things on has bought them so far, I’ve been doing quite a few fashion shows and events, so that’s been where all the business has come from.

“The idea was to do two collections a year but I do want to be doing more. It feels good to see such a great response.”
