Subaru’s 2014 Outback sports utility vehicle (SUV) is adding rugged and aggressive styling cues to underline its All-Wheel Drive ability.
Widely regarded as the original crossover wagon when it was launched in 1996 Outback has established itself as a favourite in the Subaru recreational range.
It offers genuine dirt road credentials and superior handling, combined with refined passenger car comfort and the added assurance of an independent five-star occupant safety rating.
The 2014 Outback styling upgrades include roof rails with integrated cross bars; side sills and cladding; wheel arch guards; front and rear under body guard protectors; front mud flaps; dark grey front grille; dark grey alloy wheels; and sporty headlights with black background.
According to Subaru Australia managing director, Nick Senior, that adds up to more than $2500 of additional value, however the 2014 Outback manufacturer’s list price is up only $500 on each variant.
“We’ve had a lot of customer feedback suggesting owners would like a slightly tougher-looking Outback with greater body protection, which is especially useful on rural roads where this wagon rates highly. These 2014 upgrades deliver on both fronts and will help maintain Outback’s profile as one of the most versatile and capable wagons on Australian roads,” Senior says.
The styling upgrades are standard on all Outback models, however customers who don’t want the full kit have the option to specify just roof rails, side sills, dark grey front grille and alloy wheels, and the headlights with black background.
Earlier this year Subaru announced multiple technical refinements to Outback, benefitting efficiency, handling and steering.
All Outback 2.5i variants added the new, more fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly FB horizontally-opposed Boxer engine.
Outback’s revised All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system improves precision in torque distribution between front and back wheels, refining handling and stability.
The Outback 2.5i Premium now has the award-winning EyeSight driver assist system as well as colour information display. All EyeSight-equipped Outbacks feature front sun visor extensions, dusk sensing headlights and rain sensing wipers.
Prices from $38,990 (Outback 2.5i CVT auto) to $57,990 (Outback 3.6R Premium auto) not including on-road costs.
Prices quoted do not include statutory and dealer on-road charges unless otherwise stated. Prices correct at time of writing.
