Sydney-based and internationally recognised object and furniture designer Rachel Vosila will showcase her exhibition One a Week at Homemaker The Valley from May 20 to May 26.

One a Week is a year-long project whereby the talented designer set herself the challenge of designing and constructing a new, original chair every week for a year. That’s 52 chairs in 52 weeks.

Rachel says she was concerned that she would have difficulty developing new, creative concepts from week to week, but was surprised by her ability to create and recreate new designs using different materials and tools.

“This challenge really extended me and taught me so much. I’m really pleased to be able to showcase the experiment with the Brisbane community at Homemaker The Valley in May,” she says.

Rachel didn’t study art or design at school, but was accepted into UNSW College of Fine Arts (COFA) where she completed a Bachelor of Design. It was here she fell in love with the interactivity between objects and their users, as well as the processes involved in production.

The exhibit is on display at Homemaker The Valley to act as a source of creative inspiration for shoppers.

The creative way it’s displayed gives the shoppers a tasteful experience of how Rachel’s artwork illustrates how four simple elements fielded together can make one seamless idea.

Rachel has just embarked on an international trip to Milan to showcase her first commercial pieces at Salone de Mobile alongside other Australian Designers.

You can view Rachel’s exhibition in person at Homemaker The Valley from Friday 20 to Thursday 26 May.
