Tired of rehashed puns and odd little plastic animals in your Christmas bon bons? Try making your own this year!

What you’ll need:

  • Cracker “bangers” (you can buy cracker pulls from habadashery or craft stores)
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • Wrapping paper
  • Ribbons
  • Double-sided tape
  • Treats for inside

How to:

Place a banger through each roll then fill with your trinkets and treats. Cut wrapping paper to fit snugly around each roll with 4cm overhang on each end to disguise the bangers, and then secure with the double-sided tape. Carefully twist the overhang and secure with ribbon – voila, easy personalised Christmas crackers!

Stuck for what to put inside? Think outside the bon bon and add something special…

1. Personalised jokes

Think up a funny story or joke about people at the table and include these instead!

2. Scratchies

Pop in a $1 or $2 scratchie to add an extra thrill to your bon bon battles!

3. Glitter

If you don’t mind the mess, putting a spoonful of glitter inside will make a sparkling impact when cracked!

4. Adults only

Putting a mini bottle of spirits inside can only add to the festivities. Be aware that heavier items can become mini-missiles however!

5. Christmas stickers and stamps

Or download little puzzles, mazes or word-searches from the Internet to keep the kids occupied while waiting for the food.

6. Beauty products

Lip glosses and mini-perfume bottles for the ladies are a lovely touch and add a bit of glamour to the day!
